Monsoon invests in the development of critical food supply chains. We seek value in supporting and developing upstream and midstream businesses, creating economic offtake linkages to credible downstream buyers. We began our investments in this sector with pilot projects to gain in-depth understanding of market dynamics especially in vulnerable upstream exposure of producers. We have invested in farming, fresh and frozen foods including chicken, prawns, lamb, coffee and corn. We have also advised ventures in cold chain management, carbon sequestration, farming technology, land reclamation and sustainable hospitality.

We now seek to link producers to aggregators to processors and distributors with consumer facing networks using offtake and financial support principles we learned in project development and finance, applying these to strengthen weak supply chains with funding and expertise to secure reliable production and credible offtake. The businesses we fund are not typically regarded as bankable by debt providers or pure financial investors. We manage the investment risk with active strategic advisory and management support to create a unique niche strengthening vulnerable supply chains with structured venture financing.

We are presently active in Indonesia with ongoing investments in critical food supply chains working with government agencies, listed and unlisted businesses and SME producers. Indonesia is the world’s 4 th largest market by demographic production and demand markers after China, India and the United States. It is a major producer of food and primary commodities but its essential supply chains are underserved with considerable growth potential with the right direction, structures and investment.
