Monsoon has, directly and through its shareholders, financed and developed water, healthcare and waste management assets in Cambodia since 2005.

Monsoon is the sponsor and founding shareholder of a waste management company established in 2007 with the aim to provide waste management services for municipalities throughout Cambodia. It is now active in Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Bantay Meanchey and Kampot provinces. The company is piloting recycling projects for the compost of organic food from markets and restaurant, pulverizing glass bottles into sand and plastic and foils recycling. The company has also submitted a pending proposal to the Ministry of Environment to develop the first sanitary landfill in Cambodia.

In line with Monsoon’s corporate values, the company is committed to improving working conditions and Health & Safety standards. Site facilities for the staff include canteens, laundry, dispensary and workers’ housing. The company is also an active corporate citizen in the community working closely with the government and NGOs to raise environmental awareness through education programs, cleaning activities and training, especially in public schools and villages. Awareness is raised the impact of improper disposal and burning on environment and health. Alternatives to single-use plastic are proposed, training is provided on how to sort, pack and recycle waste.
